Connecting to Country

The year six students’ building signs are proudly displayed on each of our main buildings around the school, a reminder of the schools acknowledgement of our connection to the landscape in which we are situated and the connection to Country through language. The knowledge and experience that year six gained through the leadership program with Doug Reckord from Bournda Environmental Education Centre and Lynne Thomas the Aboriginal Education Officer from Narooma Public School was valuable to students’ understanding of leadership. This year’s NAIDOC week theme, ‘Because of her we can’, felt hugely significant, as because of Lynne we all gained a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of Tilba and the Aboriginal history. Through her shared dreaming story about Najanuga, we learned the importance of courage and perseverance.
